How Long Does a Water Filter Last?

There are a few different factors that determine how long a water filter lasts. The first is usage. If your water filtration system has a higher usage, the effective lifespan of your water filter will be shorter than a filter used less often. Other factors that will influence how long your water filter lasts include:

1. The quality of the water in your area-Some water supplies have been treated with a high level of chemicals to ensure water is safe to drink, however high chemical levels, whilst making water safe to drink can also be harmful or undesirable as it can also affect the taste. If your filter is having to work harder to filter out more chemicals, this can impact how long your water filter lasts.

2. The type of filter you’re using-Generally speaking, a good quality filter will last longer however the type of filter and materials used can determine how long a water filter lasts. If sediment is trapped in a filtered surface or the surface is fragile and damages more easily this will mean you will most likely need to replace the water filter more often.

3. If infrastructure or development is taking place in your area-This can often cause a higher level of sediment to be present in your water supply which means your filter may accumulate sediment build up so will need replacing sooner.

4. The quality of your household plumbing-Especially in older houses dated plumbing systems might mean more contaminants may be present in your water. Pipes may have more wear & tear or damage which means your filter is going to be working harder to filter your drinking water.

How Often to Change Water Filters

Filters accumulate organic matter via the filtration process over time which can lead to biofilm development. This accumulation can then lead to reduced performance of your filter or a reduction in the quality of water being dispensed.

The water filters we use in our systems are high-quality filters designed to deliver the very best drinking water quality for longer. We have a range of filters to suit a variety of filtration level requirements including a 0.2 Micron filter which provides the highest level of filtration (we recommend using this filter in areas that have a lower water quality). The 0.2-micron filter removes the following from your water:

• Sediment
• Chlorine

• Parasitic cysts including cryptosporidium & giardia
• Heavy metals and lead

To keep your unit running optimally and to ensure you continue to have an exceptional standard of drinking water we require you to change your filter a minimum of every 12 months. With our systems, when you see the flashing amber dispenser icon this indicates that your filter is due to be replaced – however, some areas and higher usage sites may require a filter change at a minimum of every 6 months.

How to Replace Water Filters

To replace your water filter in one of our systems:

1. 1. Remove the system cover
2. 2. Press the pressure release switch to release the pressure in the filter
3. 3. Swing the filter towards you and pull it down until it pops out
4. 4. Remove the replacement filter from the box and remove the black cap on the top.
5. 5. Position the new filter so the large label is facing towards you, then slide the filter in and swing it back in until you hear a click which means the filter is locked into place
6. 6. Replace the cover then wait until the system’s lights stop flashing before using
